John Corner Takes On Cycle the Month for Prostate Cancer UK

This August, 57-year-old John Corner of Redcar has decided to go the extra mile and take part in Prostate Cancer UK’s successful cycling challenge, Cycle the Month, to raise money for the leading men’s health charity.

John is hoping to hit a major personal milestone by saddling up and completing more miles in a single month than he has ridden over the last three years combined to help beat prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men.

The money raised will fund vital research into lifesaving treatments for prostate cancer and provide practical support to men and their families affected by the disease. John will also be joining an intrepid team of fundraisers who have raised a remarkable £2.3 million since 2020 by saddling up as part of Cycle the Month.

John on the road raising vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK

John was inspired to take part in Cycle the Month after previously raising over £8,600 for the cause through pool marathons and riding the Grand Départ in France twice—an event where he was awarded a custom Polka Dot jersey in recognition of his fundraising achievements. Despite battling through a still-broken shoulder, hitting his heaviest weight in years, and clocking less than 80 miles on the bike over the past three years, he set out to test his limits once again for a cause close to his heart.

"I have decided to take on Cycle the Month for Prostate Cancer UK because having raised over £8,600 for them previously, I wanted to push myself through a tough personal setback. I  broke my shoulder a few years ago, and it is STILL broken, which left me unfit and at my heaviest weight in years, having logged less than 80 miles in three years."

"Even with a broken shoulder, I’ve challenged myself to do more miles in this single month than I have done in the last three years put together. I’m really looking forward to hitting the road and challenging myself this August, and I’m delighted to be raising awareness and funds to help save and improve the lives of men affected by prostate cancer."

"We’re incredibly proud that John has joined our team of remarkable riders in taking on Cycle the Month, raising vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK this August."

"Sadly, 1 in 8 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK, but the efforts that every Cycle the Month rider, including John, are going to this August will mean that we’re able to invest into more research into this disease."

"We thank John and everyone who is taking part in Cycle the Month – and all of our fundraisers across the UK – for their support."
