Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy was last updated on 26 October 2026.
This policy explains what personal information I collect when you use johncorner.co.uk (the “Site”), why I collect it, how long I keep it and what your rights are. I have written it in plain English and I only collect what I need.
Who I am
The Site is run by John Corner, trading as John Corner Web Design & SEO, Windsor Rd, Redcar, TS10 2ES, United Kingdom. I am the data controller for the information described here.
What I collect, why, and how long I keep it
Enquiries (contact form, email or phone). If you contact me I collect your name, email address, phone number (if you give it), the type of help you need and what you tell me about your project. I use it to reply, give advice and prepare a quote. My lawful basis is legitimate interests, and taking steps at your request before a contract. I keep enquiries for 12 months after our last contact, then delete them, unless you become a client.
Tips and updates (optional). If you tick the box on the contact form or sign up in the footer, I will send you occasional web design and SEO tips by email. My lawful basis is your consent. I keep your details until you unsubscribe, which you can do at any time using the link in every email.
Clients. If you hire me I keep your contact details, project records and invoices to deliver the work and manage the contract. My lawful bases are contract and legal obligation. I keep accounting records for 6 years after the end of the relevant tax year, as required for tax purposes.
Website analytics. Where you are in the UK or EU, I only use Google Analytics if you accept analytics cookies. I use it to see which pages are visited, how people find the Site and how it performs. This includes information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser. My lawful basis is your consent. Analytics data is kept for the period set in my Google Analytics account, which is no longer than 14 months from your last visit.
Maps. The contact page can show a Google Map. It only loads if you accept marketing cookies. Google may then collect information about your visit under its own privacy policy.
Security and technical logs. My hosting server and the Site record technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This helps keep the Site secure and working. My lawful basis is legitimate interests. These logs are kept for a short period and are not used to identify you.
Email logs. Messages sent by the Site, such as contact form notifications, are recorded in a log on the Site so I can check they were delivered. The log holds only the most recent messages and older ones are overwritten.
Cookies
The Site uses a cookie banner. Apart from a small cookie that remembers your choice, nothing is stored on your device for analytics or marketing unless you accept (for visitors in the UK and EU, where the banner applies). Google Tag Manager is loaded on every page, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when it loads, but analytics cookies and identifiers are only used if you accept. You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link. Full details are in my Cookie Policy.
Who I share information with
I do not sell your personal information and I do not share it for marketing by other companies. I use a small number of trusted service providers who process information on my behalf:
- My hosting and email provider, for running the Site and sending and receiving email.
- Google, for Analytics, Tag Manager, Search Console and Maps.
- HubSpot, for managing enquiries and client contacts.
- MailerLite, for sending tips and updates to people who opted in.
I may also share information if the law requires it, for example to respond to a court order, or to protect my legal rights.
