About Dave Charnley Photography

Dave Charnley is an award-winning commercial photographer based in Teesside, working with businesses across the North East. I was brought in to strengthen the search foundations of his existing WordPress website, so the quality of his work is easier to find online. You can see more at davecharnleyphotography.com.

Project Overview

Dave Charnley Photography is a commercial photography business serving companies across Teesside and the wider North East. The project focused on local SEO and getting the search setup right on his existing WordPress website, so the businesses looking for a commercial photographer nearby can find him, and so we can see what is working.

Why Local SEO Matters for a Commercial Photographer

Businesses looking for a commercial photographer rarely search for a name. They search for the service and the place, such as commercial photographer Teesside or business photography North East. If your website does not clearly say what you do and where you do it, those customers go to someone else.

Local SEO fixes that. It makes sure search engines understand your business, your location and your work, so you appear when nearby customers are ready to enquire.

Local SEO & Search Setup

I reviewed the site’s existing SEO and moved it onto a cleaner, more controllable setup, carrying across the existing SEO data and redirects safely. Work included:

  • Local business details and structured data, so search engines understand where Dave works
  • Search settings, sitemaps and indexing set up properly and submitted to Google and Bing
  • Fresh pages submitted for quicker discovery
  • Groundwork so the site is easier for AI search tools to understand

Image SEO & Analytics

For a photographer, images matter most. I reviewed the site’s images and added missing alt text and image titles, then connected Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console so performance could be measured properly.

The initial 28-day benchmark showed:

  • 1,995 Google Search impressions
  • 60 clicks
  • 335 organic sessions in GA4

Identifying Future Opportunities

With data now flowing, the next steps are clear:

  • Improve pages that earn impressions and traffic but few or no clicks
  • Improve conversion tracking for enquiries
  • Further work on content, local SEO and performance
  • Review blog posts and service pages

Ongoing Support

I continue to support Dave with WordPress configuration, SEO improvements and practical advice as the site grows.

The Result

Dave now has a solid local SEO foundation, better optimised images, local business data in place and analytics connected. That gives him a measurable starting point and a clear plan for growing his visibility across Teesside and the North East.
